Abstract

Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) is performed in selected patient with carotid stenosis groups to pre-vent stroke. Symptomatology and degree of stenosis are the main clinical consideration to perform CEA. However, many patients undergo surgery without adequate evaluation of individual risk. There is therefore a need for new adjuncts to identify high-risk subgroups of patients who particularly bene-fit from potentially hazardous interventions. Rapid progress in non-invasive ultrasound techniques has resulted in a wide variety of clinical applications for the assessment of cerebrovascular diseases. With increasing knowledge of ultrasound methodology, it becomes promising tools, which is safe and easy to perform.
